There's something about writing stories that revolve around music that just clicks for me. After completing my Sherbrooke Station series, which follows an alternative rock band's rise to fame, it was such a joy to come back to music land and tell Paige and Youssef's story in When the Lights Come On. Both of them are DJs working their way through the ranks of the Montreal nightlife scene, so of course, I listened to A LOT of music while working my way through the book.
The official playlist for the book is a mix of tracks that I think would be similar to the music Paige and Youssef make, as well as songs that remind me of the story overall or even feature in it themselves.
You can listen to the whole thing here, and here's the full track list:
Be Kind- Halsey and Marshmello
Lonely- Illenium
Look at You- Jyye
Tides- Jyye
Indian Summer- Jai Wolf
Red Light- xChenda
Never Be Like You- Flume
Kids- MGMT
Matilda- Alt-J
Crowded Places- BANKS
Should Have Known Better- Sufjan Stevens
How Deep is Your Love- Neon Vines
Black Sun- Death Cab for Cutie
Cover it Up- Robert Cristian
My Body is a Cage- Arcade Fire
Light- San Holo
Piece of Your Heart- Meduza
If that's got you all pumped up to read about two DJs making music (and falling in looooove), you can grab your copy of the book here!
